Using verbal cues in conversation

Verbal cues are directives that you speak, like prompts or specific questions you ask the patient to guide the conversation. Verbal cues provide additional context that can help DAX Copilot better understand what’s happening during your exam, so it can generate a better and more accurate summary.

Here are some best practices and examples:

✓ Verbally specify location and laterality . When your patient points to body areas, remember to say things like “ Do you feel the pain in just the left side of your chest ?” Or, if a patient points and says, “ It hurts the worst right here ”, be sure to specify where the patient is pointing verbally. Confirm for the patient by saying things like “ So, you’re feeling that pain mostly in your left hand? ” This also helps the patient confirm the correct areas in question.

✓ Articulate what you’re doing and verbalize what you want DAX Copilot to capture. This helps the AI know in which section to place the information, and helps it capture clinical facts in the summary. For example, " I'm going to listen to your heart and lungs ."

✓ Probe for relevant information and prompt for symptoms. Encourage the patient to describe what’s been going on since they were last seen. For example, “ It looks like we started Motrin 800mg three times a day the last time you were in. Ho w’ s that working for you? ” This practice will ensure DAX Copilot gets that information into the summary and prompts the patient to talk about how they are feeling, conversationally.
